This year (7th in Calgary) proved to have a new set of challenges to over come. The weather forecast was very poor as it was calling for rain and hail throughout Calgary. The brand new power pack (6th WWMM) used for the sound system failed to work this year. As always we have a back up plan for these type of unforeseen issues.

Due to the nasty weather forecast the number of people attending and marching this year was way down. Reminds me of the year Debbie and I stood alone on 4/20 in a snow storm. That only lasted 30 minutes and we both decide it was time to pack up and go to a warm place to enjoy what was left of the day.

As always we had loads of free goodies to give away including hundreds of Treating Yourself and Skunk magazines again. Hundreds of green Calgary 420 ballons and a lot of other free hemp related goodies for all.

Once again there were 5 Worldwide Marijuana March events to be held in Alberta the first Saturday of May. Saturday, May 7 / 2011! Alberta is the only province in Canada to have multiple Worldwide Marijuana Marches for the third year in a row. Ontario and B.C. have been inspired by Alberta to have multiple provincial Worldwide Marijuana Marches in 2011 as well.

Calgary 420 has always cultivated a respectful good working relationship with the Calgary Police Service (CPS) for a number of years now. Our events are always peaceful and NON destructive. Calgary 420 does NOT promote open and illegal consumption of cannabis at public events. Peaceful and non destructive Calgary 420 events are intended to truthfully educate the general public with scientific truthful facts in regards to cannabis at the same time promoting consideration, compassion, understanding and respect for the Calgary Police Service and the non cannabis consuming general public.

Calgary's WWMM events are growing larger as each year passes. Hundreds of peaceful and non destructive event attendees are made up of cannabis consumers and non cannabis consumers that know the scientific truthful facts or want to learn scientific truthful facts about cannabis and the harms created by the continued prohibition of cannabis. Calgary 420 is expecting up to 1000 marchers in 2011!

Information about how to become legal to posses, grow and consume medical cannabis (marijuana). We have doctors that are properly educated about the incredible  benefits of medical cannabis that are signing Health Canada exemption forms.

This will be the forth year a Calgary medical cannabis compassion club will be attending with a medical cannabis display. Many of their members have Health Canada exemptions to legally posses, cultivate and consume cannabis will be attending Calgary's 2011 WWMM.

This years WWMM event march/parade marshals both suffer with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) will lead the march/parade in electric powered wheel chairs. Both also has a Health Canada medical cannabis exemption to legally posses, cultivate cannabis and consume cannabis where ever tobacco cigarettes can be legal consumed.

Even more local businesses are sponsoring this years Calgary 420 WWMM event. 9 sponsors in a public fashion while other sponsors prefer to not be publicly mention due to the undeserved negative stigma that is still actively promoted by all levels of governments, RCMP and other police services.

420 @ Body, Soul and Spirit Expo https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/56-420-boby-soul-and-spirit-expo.html https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/56-420-boby-soul-and-spirit-expo.html
The idea for this type of action came from Treating Yourself renting a display booth at non cannabis related trade shows and getting seriously positive feed back, so much so they were encouraged to come back and do it again. I felt this would be a excellent way to get to the general public that are not exposed to the truth about cannabis in their daily lives. After a lot of planning and research I felt the best way for Calgary 420 to attempt this for the first time in conservative Calgary was the 3 day Body, Soul and Spirit Expo. Second was to stick with a educational booth only. In other words we were there selling nothing and only providing free truthful fact based information in the form of displays including samples of legal high quality medical grade cannabis, audio/video, cannabis related magazines and easy to read one page documents (many provided by frankdiscussion.net) and how to get a Health Canada medical cannabis exemption license from the CDSA as well as answer questions the general public would likely want to know.

Not only was it also a great way for Calgary 420 to celebrate 4/20 since the Body, Soul and Spirit Expo was on the weekend right before April 20, Calgary 420 has the people that would volunteer the time and effort and the sponsors that would pay the bills so it became a must do type of action.

As suspected Friday proved to be the biggest shock for the Body, Soul and Spirit Expo and the Big Four Building on the Calgary Stampede Grounds. Also as suspected a complaint was called into the Calgary Police Service (CPS) and they send a undercover police officer to investigate us Friday evening. I didn’t know the undercover police officer had arrived due to his questions were like others we had already answered a number of times. Comments and questions like “that can’t be real marijuana”,  and after being told it was real cannabis and then the question “is that not illegal?” After explaining it was legal due the fact we had Health Canada exempted people in the booth in full control of the high quality medical grade cannabis the red flag for me was when he asked if he could see a Health Canada license. Right then I knew the person was very likely a Calgary Police Service (CPS) undercover police officer. His last question after looking at the Health Canada license provide by Rob Blair was “is there more then 90 grams in the jars on the table”. That question confirmed to me right away this person was a Calgary Police Service (CPS) undercover police officer. Once I assured him there was under 90 grams on display he winked and turned on his hell and left with a smile on his face. I knew he would report to the CPS, show management and the Big Four Building staff all was legal and the CPS has no interest in our activities at the show. It was interesting to see how the vibe change towards our booth on Saturday morning. Many vendors at the Expo that avoided our booth on Friday and even a few that frowned at us as they keep a wide space between themselves and our booth on Friday were now stopping by our booth very curious and asking many questions.

There was so many more other highlights during the 3 days of the Body, Soul and Spirit Expo to many to mention here but one I feel must be mentioned here is the email messages I received from Body, Soul and Spirit Expo show management early Sunday morning, before the start of the last day of the show, thanking us for our booth and that they had received a lot of very positive feed back about our booth and how we all conducted ourselves. They went on to say they would love to have us at there shows in Edmonton and Saskatchewan.

Lastly but not least a huge thank you goes out to all the Calgary 420 volunteers, sponsors and all the people that stopped by our booth during the 3 days we celebrated 4/20!

CannaMed Fair Vancouver B.C. https://calgary420.ca/home/3-canada/55-cannamed-fair-vancouver-bc.html https://calgary420.ca/home/3-canada/55-cannamed-fair-vancouver-bc.html

The Canna MedFair in Vancouver B.C. was the event to get Debbie and I back out in the thick of the community even though I was still recovering from the latest surgery (3 in less then 6 months as of this writing) still attached to a Negative Pressure Wound therapy device. We both needed a big change of pace in our lives at this point and the Canna MedFair was the just the thing we needed spending time with good friends having good times.

Calgary International Airport the security alarm went off as I passed through. Could of been the silver foam that was in a large wound in my left hip area that set off the alarm so I showed the security person a note from my doctor and the medical device in my carry on bag. Still they needed to check me out and make sure I was not a security threat to aviation.

When Debbie and I arrived at the Vancouver Heritage Hall there was no way to miss it with the huge Canna MedFair banner high up on the front of the building over the front entrance. We saw Kelly Kriston (KDK Distributors) and J out front on the sidewalk talking to one of the groups of happy people. As we got a little closer there was more then one sweet smell of cannabis in the air. A out stretched hand appeared and offered up and well rolled cannabis joint complete with filter with many happy greeting directed towards Debbie and I. There it was the tone of this weekend event was set before it had even officially open the doors. All weekend it was such a warm inviting atmosphere no surprise here though I have yet to attend one of these types of events that has not had a warm inviting atmosphere. Seeing old friends and meeting people in person for the first time that we have know on-line and those that we admired and respected but had never met until an such an event as this one is always one of the highlights for me. Also be able to sample many different products produced by many different people in different ways is always a real good time.

The Tall Bothers entertained the crowd with music and comedy. International Hempology 101 Society organized a trivia game and had knowledgeable pro cannabis activists as the contestants. The awesome spread of Greek food was a delight as well.

These types of events are also a good place to learn of new ideas, products including what is and what is not working in social justice advocacy efforts and this is not only limited to the medicinal cannabis community either. The networking is very important for our communities of course. All so many benefits come from these types of events we all need to put forth a strong effort to attend and support events in our local communities and others across our great country.

Also coming soon articles about our experiences in the Calgary 420 booth over 3 days in April at The Body Soul & Spirit Expo and the 7th annual Worldwide Marijuana March May 7 / 2011 and the TY Medical Marijuana and Hemp Expo in Toronto June 3 - 5 / 2011.

Hope to see many of you at the 1st Annual Praire Medicinal Cannabis Cup Saskatoon Sask.

No Extradition Protests https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/54-no-extradition-protests.html https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/54-no-extradition-protests.html
Worldwide protest extradition of Marc Emery May 22 / 2010
US Consulate or the Harry Hayes Building, Calgary.
Folks how ever you feel about Marc Emery I ask all of you with negative opinions about Emery to set it aside for at least this very important issue of Canadian Sovereignty which of course is way bigger issue then any one person. This issue affects us Canadians in a very negative way and we need to stand up and speak up!
We started to arrive at 1:30 to setup and get the media interviews out of the way.
The weather was reasonable warm which was nice after the cold windy day we had for the Worldwide Marijuana March a few weeks earlier. A few media types showed and got their interviews. We had 8 Calgary Police officers attend to watch over us. Debbie was able to convince a few police officers to take a Treating Yourself magazine and some of our fact based handouts as well
We setup the table and signs on the Harry Hayes Building front court yard while the speeches were made. A good size crowd attend the season activists were out in full force as usual and some new faces from the Worldwide Marijuana March at Calgary City Hall a few weeks earlier also came out to enjoy a day with other like minded stand up and speak up people. At 4:20 we all took some time to get to know each other a little better and discuss future events.

Worldwide protest extradition of Marc Emery September 18 / 2010
US Consulate or the Harry Hayes Building, Calgary
We started to arrive at 1:30 to setup and get the media interviews out of the way.
The one thing I did different this time was not to inform the Calgary Police Service we would be protesting. This lead to us not have the police present this time around. I knew we would not need them and this way they could use their time to go after some criminals. Another thing that was different this time around was 660News All news Radio was broadcasting a news report about the worldwide Free Marc Emery rallies every half hour. They also included in the broadcast where our event is at today.
Yet another cold and windy day in downtown Calgary which did hold back the number of people attending this second protest in regards to the extradition of Marc Emery. I was a little surprised when 40 people show up for the second No Extradition protest this year. Good to see more so on such a cold day.
J.C. arrived with a Stephen Harper dummy with a huge joint stuffed in it's mouth wearing a cannabis leaf shirt. A real nice couple arrived in a truck with messages on the back and they had a massive hand made sign as well. Check out the picture gallery.

Stop Bill S-10 Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Rallies https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/53-stop-bill-s-10-mandatory-minimum-sentencing-rallies.html https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/53-stop-bill-s-10-mandatory-minimum-sentencing-rallies.html
2010 - Stop Bill S-10 Mandatory Minimum Sentencing in Canada Calgary Cannabis Community rallies!

Calgary 420 Cannabis Community rallies to educate Canadians with the truthful facts about proven failed mandatory minimum prison sentences. Stop Bill S-10!
Free pro cannabis posters, signs, magazines, factual information and more!

In 2010 there was two Stop Bill S-10 Mandatory Minimum Sentencing in Canada held at the Harry Hayes Building - 220 4th Ave. S.E. Calgary. First one was on Saturday June 4.
We had over 25 people attend with hand made signs to draw attention to our messages. We had some of the usual crowd and some new people which is always good to see. Our PA sound system was well used to spread the true facts about decades of complete failure of Mandatory Minimum Sentencing used in the United States and other countries around the world that are now reversing their failed Mandatory Minimum Sentencing policies.

Rev. Kevin Moore and Rob Blair were interviewed by CTV Calgary. The news video was broadcast on the June 4 / 2010, 6:00 PM news. Great work folks!

The second Stop to Bill S-10 Mandatory Minimum Sentencing in Canada Calgary Cannabis Community was also held at at the Harry Hayes Building - 220 4th Ave. S.E. Calgary on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Another successful Stop to Bill S-10 Mandatory Minimum Sentencing in Canada rally with a good time was had by all. Once again attendees received cool free stuff and got to enjoy their freedom on a warm sunny day with like minded people. The highlight had to be when a lot of the vehicle traffic was stopped at the red traffic light erupted in to a chorus of horn honking.

This event did receive a small amount of negative attention from a overly zealous security guard that was not at all happy about our truthful fact based messages. He went so far as to complain to the Calgary Police Service (CPS) in an attempt to stop us. After I had a short conversation with the 4 CPS officers that were dispatched to investigate the complaint they left to pursue some criminals.

It is unfortunate some people still want to force there under educated opinions on others and even go so far as to waste valuable CPS resources in a futile attempt to stop other Canadians enjoying their 100% legal freedoms.

Thankfully the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms protect us all form people that would otherwise do everything in their power to stop others from speaking up for themselves!

Apology! https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/52-apology.html https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/52-apology.html
First off I apologize for the long delay in articles. Medical issues mostly and even the loss of a family member recently have kept me from writing.
I am working on getting my writing caught up and hope to find more time to write the media in the form of letters to the editor again.
As you will see in the articles to come soon the activism was still happening just at a slower pace then in the past years to date.

Priceless! https://calgary420.ca/home/3-canada/51-priceless.html https://calgary420.ca/home/3-canada/51-priceless.html
The first annual Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, a first such amazing event in Canada, is now part of history. . The 4,000 sq ft Vapor Lounge with a number of vaporizer companies providing the use of their vaporizer products right in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre no less. Promoting the respectable and responsible use of the cannabis and hemp plants. Priceless!

This event alone has and will continue to bring much deserved respect for the amazingly beneficial cannabis and hemp plants. Priceless!

Just as important the people & businesses that have made what the Canadian cannabis community has become and this event even possible have more then earned our admiration, respect and strong support! I can't list all involved here so please do have a look around the 2010 Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo web site and show support back. There are so many other people that were a big part of behind the scenes that will go unmentioned as well.

Calgary 420 was well represented with at least 16 members attending the 2010 Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo. Calgary's own KDK Distributors a sponsor of the event was the driving force behind Calgary being so well represented. Both Bongs and Suchand The Next Level were also there supporting the event. Also a huge thank you goes out to Skunk Magazine for having a booth there and your continued strong support of the cannabis communities in Canada and the USA.

Toronto was hot and humid of course but thanks to the InterContinental Hotel being attached to Metro Toronto Convention Centre we were able to enjoy the event in a comfortable indoor climate controlled environment. There was just so much to see and do at the event we only left the hotel & convention centre for the boat cruise Saturday night. The many booth displays giving away all kinds of free goodies, including advice, information, education, was beyond amazing to say the least. Kelly Christie himself collected 20 kg of free stuff. Add on the many high profile speakers, comedians, musicians, Ha-Swesh Hemp Clothing Fashion Shows, Global Marijuana Music Awards and the socializing with so many friendly like minded people. Priceless!

There were so many highlights for Debbie, Kelly Christie and I (many others too). A very short list is getting to spend time with like minded friends, meeting others in person for the first time and meeting new like minded people as well. Debbie and I did get to meet Casper Leitch - http://www.time4hemp.com/ and spend some private time in his hotel suite talking with him. Debbie and I would have liked to meet more people, do and see more and even collect some of the free booty but as it turned out that was just not to be for us this time around.

I will end this writing knowing we will get to meet more friendly like minded people and get to see and do more at the 2nd annual Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo in 2011. Additionally we hope to attend more of these types of events in Canada in the future.

Stand Up! Speak Up! Your Silence is your Consent!

The occupation of Stephen Harper's Calgary constituency office! https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/50--the-occupation-of-stephen-harpers-calgary-constituency-office.html https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/50--the-occupation-of-stephen-harpers-calgary-constituency-office.html The occupation of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Calgary constituency office!

Wednesday, May 19 / 2010, 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM

The day started at the Calgary International Airport. Jodie Emery - Cannabis Culture and Jacob Hunter - Beyond Prohibition Foundation arrived at 9:20 AM.
First stop was at Bongs and Such new northwest store across from SAIT. Nick donated some DANK energy drinks and a Canadian Cannabis flag for the protest occupation of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Calgary constituency office! Next stop was The Next Level where Lisa Kirkman - Skunk Magazine and Jordan Champagne met up with the four of us. A short visit and we were off for a quick lunch stop at Smugglers on Macleod Trail and to meet up with Kelly Christie and Arleen Lively. Our food had not arrived by 12:35 so we had it packaged up to take with us.

12:50 we arrived at Glenmore Landing Mall where Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Calgary constituency office is located.
Some Calgary 420 members were there already waiting in the shade of a tree. Jodie, Jacob and I exited my truck at the front door and entered the building and proceeded to the second floor where Harper's constituency office is in the building. Debbie parked my truck and gathered the Calgary 420 members together ready to enter the building.

I had the video camera rolling while Jacob tried to open the door but found it locked. Jacob knocked on the the locked door and to my surprise the door opened. We entered the office and Jacob announced we were there to occupy the office in protest of the Marc Emery extradition. The constituency office employee politely said she was ok with the protest. Jacob then proceeded to produce a large bag of Kush cannabis and roll large joints.

The Harper's constituency office employee then said she did not want to be video recorded please respect my right to privacy. I told her I would respect her request and not record her but if she did get recorded by accident I would be sure to blur out her face. She thanked me and then entered a internal office and started to use a phone. Debbie then entered the Harper's constituency office with a number of Calgary 420 members following her in. Debbie took over the video recording at this point. I got on the phone to the local media letting them know about the protest action that was under way. Some were surprised we were actually in the Prime Minister of Canada Calgary constituency office . One comment was "don't you think you will get arrested". I replied we are ready to be arrested and will not resist CPS actions to arrest and charge us. Note: We will always fight the charges in a court of law. In other words we will play their game by their rules and we will still win. We have been there and done exactly that before.

CTV News arrived with reporter and camera man. Followed by Global TV, The Calgary Herald and 660 News AM radio. 770 CHQR also were reporting on the protest.

By now the Calgary Police Service (CPS) had arrived. I told the CPS officer clearly in charge we are peaceful and can prove it. I went on to say I have phone numbers to two CPS officers I have worked with in regards to rallies and protests I have organized and lead over the last 5 years. Also I added we will respect the CPS and the office staff.  The CPS officer in charge commented they had more important things to do then be there. I told the CPS officer our action was also very important but agreed they did not need to be there either.

At the same time all this was going on Jacob Hunter and Rob Blair (both legal medical cannabis consumers) are rolling joints. Jacob and Jodie are video recording, speaking to the media, and spreading the word on the Internet that our occupation of Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Calgary constituency office was well under way. Then Jodie lead the group in song and chants while we stood on the balcony over looking the protesters below.in front of the entrance doors to the professional building where Harper's constituency office.

This is when things started to get real tense. The property management demanded the CPS remove us from the balcony. The CPS respectfully asked us to return to the office. I felt we should comply and we all went back in side. There is a old saying "give them a inch and they will try to take a mile". Now the property management demanded CPS remove us from the office because it was on private property and they wanted to close it.

I made the announcement we were being asked to leave. Jacob immediately stood up and refused to leave until the regular closing hour of 5:00 PM. I told everyone they could leave if they choose to and added I would appreciate it if they would stand outside with signs in a show of support for those of us that chose to stay in the office and risk being arrested and charged. Everyone decided to stay in the office.

The office staff made a statement she was leaving and wanted to close the office. Again we all refused to leave until 5:00 PM. The staff went out the balcony door and exited through another office. Some of our group left when they needed to use a washroom or medicate with their legal cannabis medication. The next step for the CPS was to not allow any of our group back into the building. I had suspected this could happen so that is the reason I stayed even though I needed to use a washroom.

The tension continued to build as the afternoon wore on. This ended when at 4:00 PM to plain clothes CPS detectives arrived and announced we would not be arrested and would be allowed to complete our occupation of the Harper's constituency office until 5:00 PM. The uniformed CPS officers left at this point.

4:20 PM our group cheered and chanted. We knew the risks were now over and we had won the battle. 5:00 PM we all left the office peacefully and were cheered on by Calgary 420 members waiting outside for us. CTV had their live satellite feed truck and broadcast a live report of the afternoons protest in Prime Minister Stephen Harper's Calgary constituency office. Our group continued the protest in the parking lot with signs, chants, songs and cheers.

Calgary 6th Annual Worldwide Marijuana March https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/49-calgary-6th-annual-worldwide-marijuana-march.html https://calgary420.ca/home/1-calgary/49-calgary-6th-annual-worldwide-marijuana-march.html
Calgary 6th Annual Worldwide Marijuana March Saturday, May 10 / 2010

This year event proved to even more of a challenge to make happen then previous years. The weather was cool, windy but sunny. Alberta tends to get cold and wet weather in May. The 5 previous years we have had warm sunny weather so as each year passes the odds of having poor weather become more and more likely.
Days before the event our sound tech called and told me he was stuck in Ontario and would not be on hand with the sound system and required power supply.
The scramble was on. Renting the sound system was the easy part. Borrowing a AC power supply proved unobtainable Getting a reasonable price on a power supply that would provide enough power turned out to be expensive. The show must go on of course.

Debbie and I worked many hours to cut the stickers, visit our sponsors pick up the prizes and give away products, meet with the police, get materials for signs to be made by Lyle Strand and on and on it went. Still all in all it is worth the effort and money to make the event happen in conservative Calgary.

Debbie, Mamakind and I arrived at Calgary City Hall at 12:00 noon to start unloading two trucks packed solid and get setup. Thankfully Calgary 420 event marshals Rev. Kevin Moore and Rob Blair were there waiting to help out when we arrived. Rev. Kevin Moore got to work on setting up the rented sound system and power supply. In short order more volunteers and event marshals started to arrive and the unloading and setup went smoothly. Right on time at 12:30 the 250+ helium filled balloons with the Calgary 420 logo on them started to arrive. 12:30 the media Global TV and CTV showed up so we could get the interviews done before the event start time of 1:00 PM. The media wanted to interview the parade marshals listed in the press release as well. Sadly two of the three parade marshals were not able to attend due to illness of which two are Health Canada MADD card holders. One Health Canada MADD card holder parade marshal  Grant Cluff arrived late at 1:40 PM so the media were not able to get interviews. Thankfully Rob Blair a Health Canada MADD card holder agreed to be interviewed by Global TV. Rob did a excellent interview that Calgary 420 is very proud of. Big thank you goes out to Rob Blair for saving that part of the planned event.

The start of the event the crowd was pretty small. I found out that some how a message was sent out on Facebook telling people the event would not start until 2:00 PM instead of the usual 1:00 PM. 2008 I realized we needed a longer event due to it growing in size each year. 2009 and 1010 the events were scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.

This years event like past years events was started with the very appropriate tune For What It's Worth by Buffalo Springfield 1966 being punched out loud and proud. See the end of this article for the lyrics and a link to a Youtube video clip.

There was also an event across the street at Olympic Plaza and our rented sound system could be heard over there. It drew the attention of those event goers and some came over to join us as the crowd began to swell around 1:30 PM. One parent brought his children over after hearing speeches belting out the true facts about prohibition. He wanted his children to hear the truth. He insisted he felt he had to be a responsible parent and did not want to lie to them and have them end up distrusting his teaching them.

After I, Mamakind and Grant Cluff spoke to the crowd and some more music was played the parade was started at 2:00 PM. The Calgary Police Service blocked the cross streets so the marchers could cross safely in a large group. This has be one of my favorite parts of the event. Hundreds of people from all ages and walks of life joining together with hundreds of signs and helium fill Calgary 420 green balloons filling the 8th avenue mall for at least two blocks long. Chanting, waving signs enjoying being united in the right fight and being loud and proud.

Once the parade arrived back at Calgary City Hall Kelly Christie and Debbie Fagin were waiting to start handing out the hundreds of Treating Yourself Magazines and some Skunk Magazine and some Cannabis Culture magazines. Free posters, t-shirts, signs, stickers and the list goes on and on were given away. Kelly Christie setup by the Calgary Police Service officers again this year to had out hundreds of Calgary packs of rolling papers and other over 18 year old products once they produced picture ID. Of course there will always be the under 18 year old people at these events and we make sure they to get free products that are not restricted to the adult crowd only.

I am proud to mention Kelly Christie, Debbie Fagin and Rev. Kevin Moore all stood up to the microphone and spoke to the crowd this year. Debbie encouraged the crowd to chant slogans that were much more appropriate then some of the past year chants by the crowd such as smoke weed, we're high we here get use to it and so on.

More speeches and music and it was time to hand out prizes for best Ganja Fairies, best signs and best costumes. Next up was the glass art and vaporizer draws.
As has happened in previous years my head was seriously sunburned, feet were sore and my back was aching by the end of the event
Lastly but not least I want to thank all the volunteers, event marshals and many sponsors that help this event happen successfully every year!
As per each and every event Calgary 420 left the area cleaner then when we got there all thanks to the crowd, volunteers and event marshals.

See you next at the next Calgary event!

Special thanks to Bill, Jackie and Nick from Bongs and Such, Hemp Roots, Hemporium, KDK Distributors and quik Mick, The Next Level and Virtual Vales.
Additional we have gained a new hemp store sponsor called Green Thumbs.

For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield 1966

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware

I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind

I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side

It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away

We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

http://www.leap.cc/cms/index.php?name=Speakers&bio=237

Our deepest heart felt condolences go our to Barbara and Lia and Luc.

We had the pleasure of working with Jerry in Calgary for 4 days in November 2007 and meeting his wife Barbara.
Jerry greatly helped open doors that were tightly closed shut in Alberta!
Thank you Jerry you will be sadly missed but never forgotten!

Jerry joined the LEAP Board of Directors on February 21, 2008.

"We've now fixed a date for March 6 at 11:00 a.m. for the memorial
service, which will be held at Boal Chapel, First Memorial Funeral
Service, 1505 Lillouet Road, North Vancouver, with a reception from
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bistro Chez Michel, 224 West Esplanade,
North Vancouver.

To make things easier for those who are planning to come, there is a
block booking under the name "Paradis Memorial" at the Lonsdale Quay
Hotel, at a rate of $99.99 per night, for Friday and Saturday nights.
We've blocked off ten rooms but if we go over our number and they
have more rooms available, they will continue to offer the rate.
Please call them direct at
604-986-6111 before Friday, February 26 to
book your room.

Those arriving by plane can take the Canada Line to the Seabus, and
the hotel is at the Quay on the North Vancouver side (journey time
approx. 45 min). So you don't need to rent a car while you're here.
We'll have limos picking everybody up and taking them to the service,
and then to the reception, which is just 1 block from the hotel.

For those arriving by car, unfortunately, there is a $10.00/day parking fee.

The obituary will run in tomorrow's Vancouver Sun. But it can also
be accessed online at remembering.ca.

Thank you to all of you for your calls and emails. We appreciate all the love.

Barbara and Lia and Luc
