Federal Health Minister Jane Philpott stated on April 20, 2016 legislation to legalize cannabis in Canada will be introduced in the spring of 2017.
The Federal Health Minister made the announcement in New York, leading a Canadian delegation to the United Nations General Assembly special session on drugs. “Our approach to drugs must be comprehensive, collaborative and compassionate. It must protect human rights while promoting shared responsibility and it must have a firm scientific foundation," she said. Philpott said Canada would apply those principles to cannabis legalization.
She conceded the change “challenges the status quo in many countries,” but said Canada’s government is convinced it is the best way to protect the youth and enhance public safety. Canada will continue to “modernize” its approach to drugs, she said, to embrace among other things compassionate treatment and harm reduction.

Lessons I learned from over 40 years of hands on experience in social justice advocacy and activism efforts and sacrifices, which includes, in short form, human and animal rights, harm reduction, to the vastly most difficult sacrifices proving to be for drug policy reform efforts. The last 14+ years of Debbie Fagin and my social justice reform advocacy in Calgary and Alberta and Canada to internationally became very public (unsolicited media coverage) starting at the week long June 2002 G8 summit in Alberta.
The goals always being safely and peaceful efforts first. Education next. Then on to supporting others whenever possible to stand up and speak up as they see fit. Encourage them to take responsibility for themselves and never expect others to stand up and speak up for them like they want it done. Word has been all my 57 years of my living, “if you want it done right do it yourself”, right in this case being how you feel it should be done.
Lastly my personal advice to all:
First most important, always be safe and peaceful having fun. This will go a long way towards everyone being able to come back and enjoy again.
Try not to allow human nature rule you by making social justice efforts a competition.
Stand up or not try to support (encourage) those that do work on positive social justice advocacy and activism efforts in Canada first.
