Calgary 420 Cannabis CommunityCannaMed Fair Vancouver B.C.
The Canna MedFair in Vancouver B.C. was the event to get Debbie and I back out in the thick of the community even though I was still recovering from the latest surgery (3 in less then 6 months as of this writing) still attached to a Negative Pressure Wound therapy device. We both needed a big change of pace in our lives at this point and the Canna MedFair was the just the thing we needed spending time with good friends having good times.
Calgary International Airport the security alarm went off as I passed through. Could of been the silver foam that was in a large wound in my left hip area that set off the alarm so I showed the security person a note from my doctor and the medical device in my carry on bag. Still they needed to check me out and make sure I was not a security threat to aviation.
When Debbie and I arrived at the Vancouver Heritage Hall there was no way to miss it with the huge Canna MedFair banner high up on the front of the building over the front entrance. We saw Kelly Kriston (KDK Distributors) and J out front on the sidewalk talking to one of the groups of happy people. As we got a little closer there was more then one sweet smell of cannabis in the air. A out stretched hand appeared and offered up and well rolled cannabis joint complete with filter with many happy greeting directed towards Debbie and I. There it was the tone of this weekend event was set before it had even officially open the doors. All weekend it was such a warm inviting atmosphere no surprise here though I have yet to attend one of these types of events that has not had a warm inviting atmosphere. Seeing old friends and meeting people in person for the first time that we have know on-line and those that we admired and respected but had never met until an such an event as this one is always one of the highlights for me. Also be able to sample many different products produced by many different people in different ways is always a real good time.
The Tall Bothers entertained the crowd with music and comedy. International Hempology 101 Society organized a trivia game and had knowledgeable pro cannabis activists as the contestants. The awesome spread of Greek food was a delight as well.
These types of events are also a good place to learn of new ideas, products including what is and what is not working in social justice advocacy efforts and this is not only limited to the medicinal cannabis community either. The networking is very important for our communities of course. All so many benefits come from these types of events we all need to put forth a strong effort to attend and support events in our local communities and others across our great country.
Also coming soon articles about our experiences in the Calgary 420 booth over 3 days in April at The Body Soul & Spirit Expo and the 7th annual Worldwide Marijuana March May 7 / 2011 and the TY Medical Marijuana and Hemp Expo in Toronto June 3 - 5 / 2011.
Hope to see many of you at the 1st Annual Praire Medicinal Cannabis Cup Saskatoon Sask.

Priceless!
The first annual Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto, Ontario, a first such amazing event in Canada, is now part of history. . The 4,000 sq ft Vapor Lounge with a number of vaporizer companies providing the use of their vaporizer products right in the Metro Toronto Convention Centre no less. Promoting the respectable and responsible use of the cannabis and hemp plants. Priceless!
This event alone has and will continue to bring much deserved respect for the amazingly beneficial cannabis and hemp plants. Priceless!
Just as important the people & businesses that have made what the Canadian cannabis community has become and this event even possible have more then earned our admiration, respect and strong support! I can't list all involved here so please do have a look around the 2010 Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo web site and show support back. There are so many other people that were a big part of behind the scenes that will go unmentioned as well.
Calgary 420 was well represented with at least 16 members attending the 2010 Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo. Calgary's own KDK Distributors a sponsor of the event was the driving force behind Calgary being so well represented. Both Bongs and Suchand The Next Level were also there supporting the event. Also a huge thank you goes out to Skunk Magazine for having a booth there and your continued strong support of the cannabis communities in Canada and the USA.
Toronto was hot and humid of course but thanks to the InterContinental Hotel being attached to Metro Toronto Convention Centre we were able to enjoy the event in a comfortable indoor climate controlled environment. There was just so much to see and do at the event we only left the hotel & convention centre for the boat cruise Saturday night. The many booth displays giving away all kinds of free goodies, including advice, information, education, was beyond amazing to say the least. Kelly Christie himself collected 20 kg of free stuff. Add on the many high profile speakers, comedians, musicians, Ha-Swesh Hemp Clothing Fashion Shows, Global Marijuana Music Awards and the socializing with so many friendly like minded people. Priceless!
There were so many highlights for Debbie, Kelly Christie and I (many others too). A very short list is getting to spend time with like minded friends, meeting others in person for the first time and meeting new like minded people as well. Debbie and I did get to meet Casper Leitch - http://www.time4hemp.com/ and spend some private time in his hotel suite talking with him. Debbie and I would have liked to meet more people, do and see more and even collect some of the free booty but as it turned out that was just not to be for us this time around.
I will end this writing knowing we will get to meet more friendly like minded people and get to see and do more at the 2nd annual Treating Yourself Medical Marijuana & Hemp Expo in 2011. Additionally we hope to attend more of these types of events in Canada in the future.

After arriving at the Toronto Pearson Airport June 11 we picked up the rental van and a portable GPS (dubbed Kelly's bitch). As long as Kelly had his bitch (portable GPS) on his lap she would direct us just fine. When anyone else touched Kelly's bitch she refused to work properly. Telling us to stay left and then telling us to turn right and then change her mind and telling us to turn left. Bud, Debbie, Keith and Kelly drove to the Hotbox / Roach O Rama in the Kensington Market to meet Marge Groenendyk, Grama Dee,
Kass Grant, John Snow, Rich Hewitt and Bill a Treating Yourself medical cannabis activist group. The four of us were treated like old friends by this super group of people. After munching on some brownies, smoking a cone joint and even more joints we were feeling great and ready to continue our adventures. Next stop was the Best Western Hotel to check in and drop off our luggage. When Debbie and I stepped off the elevator we knew we were on the right hotel floor with the strong smell of sweet freedom filling the 18th floor. Next was to find some good food and a trip to Niagara Falls. Kelly spotted a buffet style restaurant where we filled up on Chinese food. By the time we got close to Niagara Falls the rain was coming down hard. Debbie hopped out of the rental van and took some quick pictures. It was getting late and we were all tired from the long day. We arrived back to the hotel just before 11:00 pm for some much needed rest.
June 12 we headed to the Kindred Cafe to hook up with Marco Renda, Michelle Rainey, Fred, Kevin and many others. Kindred Cafe staff commented they had not had that many people in the cafe in a some time. A number of high quality cannabis strains flowed freely amongst us all. Next stop was some good food and then off to the evenings 3 hour boat tour where samples were handed out to all attending the 6th Annual Toronto Cannabis Cup. Lots of cannabis, food, drinks and lots of good fun with many good people was made to order for all to enjoy. After the evening boat tour the party continued at a hall on College Street.
June 13 we were off to Clandestiny - Puff Mamma Bakery. We found out we had the old address for Clandestiny - Puff Mamma Bakery. Reroute to Vapor Central to hook up with Bongs and Such crew and a local Toronto activist Hudsonrulez. Vapor Central was very modern with very knowledgeable and friendly staff. Hudsonrulez was kind enough to allow me to try his portable vaporizer. Hudsonrulez offered to be our tour guide to get us to Clandestiny - Puff Mamma Bakery and introduce us to the people there.
After many more joints were consumed in the company of good people we were ready for some good food again. We just had to lunch at a restaurant called Prohibition. Our server was a B.C. native that had lived in Calgary and was in Toronto for a few months then he was going back to London, England where he had moved to from Calgary. We arrived at the hall around 6:00 PM and the smoky party was well under way. Lots more joints, demonstrations, live entertainment, prize give a ways and a whole lot more. Ron and Robin know how to put on a super good time for a large crowd. We had the pleasure of meeting and enjoying some time with Matt Beren (VICS B.C. Supreme court Feb. 2009 fame). The hall was packed with so many great people
we had the pleasure of meeting and partying with. Some were old friends and we all made many new friends. I was lucky enough to scoop a rare Willy Jack cannabis strain we brought home with us to continue to enjoy. Under a microscope the buds looked like a glob of trichome goo. When we left the party that night it was an adventure driving to find some food. A woman whipped opened a taxi door as I was passing the taxi. A quick jerk to the left on the steering wheel avoided the the taxi door being ripped off and serious injury to the woman holding on to the door.
It was then agreed we grab some quick and simple food (Subway subs) and get parked at the hotel before our excellent adventure turned ugly.
June 14 Debbie, Keith, Nick and Bill (Bongs and Such) started the day in Ron Hill's (Toronto Cannabis Cup organizer) room. Keith, Nick and Ron consumed some strong hash and enjoyed like minded conversation. The it was time to check out and head off to the Toronto Pearson Airport for our flight back to Calgary. We had the pleasure of having a comedian flight attendant on the flight home to put a prefect end to a excellent
adventure in Toronto. Stop Bill C-15
