On his visit to Calgary, Marley will share selections from his newest release, Ziggy Marley In Concert, as well as fan favourites. Marley imparts messages of love, freedom, hope and challenge. Marley has a proud and rich musical heritage. He and his siblings first sat in on recording sessions with his father’s band, the legendary Bob Marley and the Wailers, when he was ten years old. With such inspiration, Ziggy and his siblings Sharon, Cedella and Stephen created Ziggy Marley & The Melody Makers, which allowed him to create and develop his own soulful sound, blending blues, R&B, hip-hop and roots reggae. He went on to be a very successful solo artist, his music steeped in faith, fellowship and family. In addition to his humanitarian efforts in Jamaica, Ethiopia and other developing nations, Ziggy continues to lead Tuff Gong Worldwide, in honour of his father’s music label Tuff Gong Records, which envisioned independent ownership of Marley music. Ziggy recently reclaimed most of the publishing rights to his father’s music from EMI, giving him a strong sense of fulfillment in light of the “independent spirit of what my father dreamed of.”
